RJ Mitte Parents: Everything About Dyna Mitte and Roy Frank Mitte Jr.
· calvin
The parents of actor RJ Mitte were Roy Frank Mitte Jr. and Dyna Mitte. The Breaking Bad star, who died Monday at age 34 in Brownsville, Texas, was adopted as an infant by the couple before their divorce when he was just two months old.
Roy Frank Mitte III was born on August 21, 1992, in Jackson, Mississippi. His biological parents were not publicly identified, and Mitte later said he never felt the need to track them down. “Medically, I’d like to know my family history, but until I feel that need, I have enough family and friends,” he told The Sydney Morning Herald in 2019.
Dyna Mitte: The Mother Who Raised Him
Dyna Mitte adopted RJ because she had ovarian cancer and had been told she could not have children. She later gave birth to a daughter, Lacianne Carriere, 11 years after adopting RJ.
The family lived in Lafayette, Louisiana, for much of Mitte’s childhood, though he also spent time at his paternal grandparents’ ranch in Texas.
Dyna was a single mother after the divorce. When Lacianne was a few months old, Dyna was paralyzed in a car accident and remained partially paralyzed for six years. She lost her job after the accident, and the family faced financial hardship.
RJ took on work to support his mother and sister, mowing lawns and doing courier jobs. He told The Sydney Morning Herald: “I have devoted my life to my mom and my sister, and I still take care of them today.”
Roy Frank Mitte Jr.: The Father Who Adopted Him
Roy Frank Mitte Jr. adopted RJ along with Dyna when RJ was an infant. The couple divorced when RJ was two months old.
RJ spent part of his childhood at his paternal grandparents’ ranch in Texas, but he was primarily raised by his mother.
Adopted and Told at Age Six
RJ learned he was adopted when he was about six years old. His stepbrother told him, saying their parents did not love him. RJ recalled in 2019: “I didn’t believe him, but my parents confirmed that I was. I was like, ‘Okay.'”
He described his upbringing as normal despite the circumstances. He grew up with a Marine grandfather and was taught never to back down, which helped him endure bullying related to his cerebral palsy.
A Close Bond with His Mother and Sister
RJ remained close to Dyna and Lacianne throughout his life. He described them as the reason he kept pushing forward. In his final interview on The Joe Vulpis Podcast, recorded six days before his death, he said: “As long as my family is healthy and happy, I’m happy.”
Dyna Mitte has not released a public statement since her son’s death. His representatives have asked for privacy for the family.
