Myles Garrett Parents: Meet Audrey and Lawrence Garrett, the Family That Shaped the NFL’s Sack King

Myles Garrett was born to Audrey Garrett and Lawrence Garrett on December 29, 1995, in Arlington, Texas. The Los Angeles Rams edge rusher and NFL all-time single-season sack record holder has credited his parents for the discipline and humility that carried him from a Texas childhood to the top of professional football.

His parents have remained a visible and emotional presence throughout his career, from draft night in 2017 to his record-breaking 2025 season and his 2026 trade to Los Angeles.

Audrey Garrett: The All-American Mother

Audrey Garrett is a former All-American track star at Hampton University, where she attended on a track and field scholarship. She raised three world-class athletes: Myles, his older half-brother Sean Williams, and his sister Brea Garrett.

Audrey has described the challenges of parenting elite athletes with candor. “I don’t like children,” she once confessed. “I didn’t have a maternal bone, until I had children, I did not know that I had the capacity to love anything like I love those three children that I gave birth to.”

She has also been a fierce advocate for her son’s public image and career. She pushed for Myles to appear in Sports Illustrated’s 2019 Body Issue, telling the magazine, “Oh, I pushed it. Myles has always worked on his body, he’s very proud of it. And I like the artistic nature of the Body Issue.”

Lawrence Garrett: The Father Behind the Discipline

Lawrence Garrett wrote about his son in a 2017 Player’s Tribune article titled “The Myles I Know,” describing him as “an obedient kid” who “never had a rebellious stage.”

Lawrence was instrumental in Myles’ early training. He instructed his son to practice basketball for an hour every night before going inside to play video games. When Lawrence was not home, Myles still met his father’s request rather than skipping workouts.

Lawrence has remained deeply involved in his son’s career. When Myles closed in on the NFL’s single-season sack record in January 2026, Lawrence was in the stands holding a massive camera lens to capture the moment himself. He was described as arriving “ready to capture a piece of NFL history.”

The Record-Breaking Moment

After Myles broke the sack record, he shared an emotional embrace with his mother. Audrey told him, “You’re my father’s son, and she knew that I was going to do it,” Myles revealed after the game. He responded, “I’m a Garrett. That means I’m your son as well, and I did it for both of you.”

A Family of Athletes

Myles’ siblings are also accomplished athletes. His older half-brother, Sean Williams, played in the NBA from 2007 to 2012 after being drafted by the New Jersey Nets. His sister, Brea Garrett, won an NCAA championship in the 20-pound weight throw at Texas A&M in 2014.

The Garrett family’s athletic legacy extends to Myles’ grandparents. His paternal grandfather, Charles Garrett, is the son of cotton sharecroppers from Waskom, Texas. His late paternal grandmother, Juanita “Gran” Garrett, cared for Myles after school when his parents were working. Myles honored her memory in 2021 with a mural in downtown Cleveland.

Continued Family Support

Myles’ parents were in attendance to celebrate his 2026 trade to the Los Angeles Rams, with the team capturing an emotional moment between Myles and his mother. Lawrence and Audrey also joined their son on the NFL Honors red carpet before Super Bowl LX in February 2026.

Audrey has spoken about what she values most in her children. “Your biggest high can come when nobody’s watching,” she said, citing moments like watching Myles with a sick child or Sean feeding the hungry.
