Kelly Osbourne Reveals 30-Pound Weight Gain After Grief-Fueled Loss: “I Was as Shocked as Everyone Else”

Kelly Osbourne is speaking candidly about her body and health after a year of profound loss, revealing she has gained 30 pounds since her startling appearance at the 2026 BRIT Awards sparked widespread concern among fans and friends alike.
In a new interview published this week, the 41-year-old television personality opened up about the emotional toll of losing her father, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, in July 2025, and how grief manifested physically in ways she did not immediately recognize. The weight gain comes as welcome news to those who had expressed worry about her dramatically thin frame earlier this year.
A Shocking Realization
Osbourne admitted she was completely unaware of how thin she had become until she saw photographs from the BRIT Awards ceremony, where she appeared alongside her mother, Sharon Osbourne, to present an award.
“I did not know that I looked like that until I saw the pictures,” she told The Sun in an interview published Saturday. “When I saw them, I could not f***ing believe it. I was as shocked as everyone else.”
The star had sparked genuine concern when she appeared at the February ceremony in Manchester with a visibly frail figure. Sources close to the family later described her appearance as “scary” in person, with one insider noting, “I have known her for years and she has never looked like this before, not even close.”
“It Wasn’t an Eating Disorder”
Osbourne was unequivocal in denying speculation that she had been suffering from an eating disorder, instead attributing her dramatic weight loss to the overwhelming nature of grief.
“It wasn’t an eating disorder. I just couldn’t do anything for myself,” she explained. “Eating made me feel like I wanted to throw up.”
The loss of her father, who died at age 76 after suffering a cardiac arrest, with Parkinson’s disease and coronary artery disease listed as contributing factors, left Osbourne in a state of profound emotional paralysis. “No one knows what people are dealing with in private. I was just sad,” she said. “I don’t wish that pain on anyone ever. And to do that in front of everyone just sucked.”
A Long and Public Struggle with Body Image
For Osbourne, the public scrutiny of her weight is hardly new. She has been candid about body image struggles dating back to her teenage years on The Osbournes, the reality show that made her family household names.
“I got pulled into the head of the agency’s office and he gave me a whole speech about how I was too fat for TV and I needed to lose weight,” she recalled on a 2024 episode of The Osbournes Podcast. “He was just saying, ‘You’re not a movie star, but you could be one if you lost weight.'”
In 2018, Osbourne underwent gastric sleeve surgery, a procedure she has publicly credited with helping her lose 85 pounds. “It is the best thing I have ever done,” she said at the time, adding that the surgery also helped with addiction issues by cutting out a hormone that triggers cravings.
Her pregnancy with son Sidney in 2022 brought another chapter: she gained approximately 100 pounds and developed gestational diabetes, later admitting she avoided the spotlight during that period because of fears about how she would be perceived.
Denying Ozempic and Plastic Surgery Rumors
As her weight fluctuated over the years, so too did speculation about the methods behind her transformations. Osbourne has repeatedly denied using Ozempic or similar GLP-1 medications, telling Extra in 2024: “I know everybody thinks I took Ozempic. I did not take Ozempic. I don’t know where that came from. My mom took Ozempic.”
In her latest interview, she also pushed back against persistent plastic surgery rumors. “People still think I’ve had all this plastic surgery. I’ve not f***ing had plastic surgery!” she said, clarifying that her only cosmetic treatments have been Botox for migraines and jaw tension.
Finding Light in Grief
Osbourne’s journey through grief included a particularly poignant moment when she visited her father’s grave with a candle, asking for his help. The very next day, her mother introduced her to a therapist and life coach, whom Kelly credits with saving her life.
She also recently celebrated eight months of sobriety, after revealing she had started drinking again when she hit “ground zero” following her father’s death.
Reflecting on the past year, Osbourne told Hello! magazine: “It’s been the hardest year of my life. I’ll never be the person I was before my father died. A part of me died, too.”
Now in a healthier place both physically and emotionally, Osbourne’s willingness to speak openly about grief’s toll on the body offers a rare window into the often-invisible ways loss reshapes us. Her story serves as a reminder that mourning is not just an emotional experience. It can manifest physically, and healing requires the same compassion we extend to others.
